Rainy Day? No Problem. Let’s Get Weird Indoors, Ottawa! The blog.

Let’s be honest, Ottawa folks — no one actually loves a downpour. Especially not when your dog’s giving you that Olympic-level “I’m BORED” stare from the couch.

But don’t panic, fellow hoomanes!

We’ve got you covered (literally). When it’s pouring outside & your pup’s energy level rivals a toddler on espresso, try these easy, DIY indoor enrichment ideas. They’re fun, cheap, & use stuff you already have lying around — because no one wants to run to PetSmart in the rain for a puzzle toy that’ll be destroyed in five minutes.

Cardboard Chaos = Canine Heaven

Got empty boxes? Jackpot.

Build a cardboard maze by taping them together, cutting peek-a-boo holes, & tossing a few treats inside. It’s like a rainy-day escape room, but for dogs.

Warning: May result in spontaneous zoomies, happy sneezes, & cardboard confetti all over your floor. Worth it.

Towel Time Treat Hunt

Grab a few old towels, sprinkle treats between the folds, then roll them up.

Your dog’s nose will go into detective mode, & every unroll is a victory.

It’s basically dog Christmas — minus the wrapping paper (unless you count drool).

Muffin Tin Mania

Finally, a reason to dust off that muffin tin.

Drop treats or kibble into each cup, then cover them with tennis balls or toys.

Watch your pup puzzle out how to uncover the snacks — mental workout + snack time = enrichment gold.

DIY Snuffle Mat Superstar

No fancy mat? No problem.

Cut up an old fleece blanket into strips & tie them onto a rubber mat or even a plastic lid.

Sprinkle kibble among the fleece, & let your pup’s inner forager go wild.

Perfect for tiring out the brain and the nose.

The Takeaway

Rainy days don’t have to mean bored dogs or guilty hoomans.

Mental exercise is just as important as physical play — & these ideas prove you don’t need to spend money (or leave your cozy couch) to keep your pup happy.

So embrace the puddles outside & the chaos inside.

Your dog will thank you with extra tail wags, big smiles, & maybe a few “I forgive you for the rain” snuggles.
